Village Show
We had another very successful weekend of festivities and fun at the annual Barrow Flower Show and Fete this year. Both of which have proved to be very successful.
The Flower show, despite difficulties with the hot weather and lack of rain, was very attended; with over 100 exhibits entered this year. Particularly pleasing were the many entries from the children of the village and the many beautiful flowers exhibited. Our big thanks goes to our judges, who gave up their valuable time to make those difficult decisions!
The Fete, held on Sunday 12th July, proved to be another hot day! This was also well attended; takings were certainly up on last year. This year the fete had a Country and Western Theme, with opening music provided by the Haverhill Wranglers to set the atmosphere. Refreshments were provided by The Three Horseshoes, who also part subsidised the barbeque. Other food outlets included Napoleat Pizzas and Dunmow Hog roast.
Memorable events were certainly the Fancy Dress Competition and the Hobby Horse Race, culminating in a great Children's Tug O'War! Other great competitions included the coconut shy, bowling for the pig and welly wanging - all of which offered fabulous prizes.
The day wound down to the music of the Clinical Waste group.
The weekend is hoping to raise over £2,000 for the upkeep of the Village Hall.
If any one would like to get involved with the Fete or the Flower show next year, please let me know.
